| Additional Information • TOMATOES: The first clip applied after the initial string twist should be immediately above the first twist. This will prevent a stem break caused by lack of support when lowering the plant. Close to and during cropping, apply a clip as required at least every two weeks, preferably under a leaf axil. Use as many as required to avoid damage or breakage of stem, certainly no further apart than every 500 mm, preferably much closer in high cropping varieties. • The fastest and surest way of securing tomato plants makes twisting string around plants redundant! • SWEET PEPPERS: Attach lateral branches to string. • EGGPLANT: Attach lateral branches to string; attach 2 - 3 strings together under split in stem. • CUCUMBER: Clip middle of stem under support wire/string for heavy fruit bearing. 20mm clip should hold stem and leaves without plant slipping through. Re-usable! Links: Good discussion on training and supporting tomato plants from NC Uni. TOP |
