DIBRO CLIP TIE

New Stainless Steel model available November 2002

Spare Parts (Strapping/Cushions) Available

This tie is designed to support trees of all ages on properly tensioned trellis systems using 2.5 or 2.8mm HT galvanised wire. The metal clip is made from specially cast spring steel which is tempered and hardened to 42 Rockwell (C) hardness then zinc plated and gold passivated for weather proofing. The extremely hard steel easily presses a shallow land in galvanised wire to secure itself in position. Wind action tends to 'dig' the clip in further, rather than loosen the grip. Slots which strapping pass through are serrated for positive grip.

Field tests are currently being conducted on Spring Stainless Steel, the use of which would extend the life of the ties even further due to the superior anti-corrosion properties (from both galvanic and nitrogen) of Stainless.

Plastic components are UV treated to a degree suiting extreme South Pacific levels of radiation and far more than adequate for service in other countries - the service life is based on performance in New Zealand conditions. Unlike products featuring a metal or plastic lock nut which can loosen off, the Clip Tie is unaffected by expansion and contraction caused by heating and cooling.

The user cuts the strapping to suit and the quantity supplied with a set (30 metres - 100' - roll) is based on an average 300mm (12") per tie. We have found some (around 20%) growers prefer to use more strapping (up to 400mm - 16"). While our field testing has found 300mm (12") adequate for most varieties of apple, sales of extra strapping are consistent. This is usually the only part available as a separate item.

When used on rods, strap tightness should be checked at least twice during the season, more if strap is tight, and adjusted as necessary. The wide strap has rounded edges which offer no danger to bark integrity whatsoever. We have found trees over 2 years old can actually pull the strap through the clip due to gradual constant pressure - a feat almost impossible to do by hand or with wind action. No mark or ring-barking was observed on the trees that achieved this - however reliance on this method of adjustment is not recommended!

The DiBro Clip Tie is suitable for use on any tree which is supported by trellis wire. The product is patented world-wide and currently exported to Australia, South Africa and Europe. It enjoys a reputation as the best quality tie in New Zealand with volume sales and is used with equal success on Apples, Pears, Nashi, Persimmon, etc.
